Puerto Ricans: Americans with No Hyphenation Whatsoever

This website is dedicated to presenting information regarding the development of Puerto Rican autonomy under American rule, following the end of the Spanish American War in 1898. I have collected a few images focusing on the first Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico, Luis Muñoz Rivera (1859-1916).

Presented is the view of the issue of Puerto Rican autonomy from Muñoz Rivera’s perspective, as well as from the American perspective. While most of the site is currently devoted to Muñoz Rivera, there is some discussion on why the United States government chose to retain Puerto Rico as a possession while other territories ceded by Spain have since been granted independence. Most of the interpretation included in this site is expressed through the analysis of political cartoons of the era.
